Stock compound on Intel coolers?

Lovely Wolver-ampton!
Just had a look at my new chip and heatsink/fan and it appears to have three lines of thermal compound already in place.

Should I clean this off?

I have some Akasa 450 paste - is that any better?

If so, how much should I apply? I remember when I built this system I had to use the equivalent of about half a grain of rice in size and when you install the heatsink it spreads it out. Best plan?

The Intel stuff is quite good, so I would only bother replacing it with the better compounds around like AS5.

I replaced mine with AS5 instantly, got some nice temps on the stock cooler as well... 1Ghz faster and still under 66-67 orthos for 8 hours.

I got my 2180 yesterday, and couldn't be bothered looking around for AS, so used the stock tim..

3.1ghz, at full load, reaches 66C - whilst it's not freezing cold, the stock cooler is damn silent, and it's nowhere near the 85C limit.

If you don't have/cant find any decent AS5/ceramiq, then the stock stuff isn't too bad :)

the stock goo on the intel cooler is very good (as good as AS5) but also has the benefit of being perfectly applied by the factory for that type of paste.

I would say use the stock intel stuff unless you have to remove the intel cooler for any reason then clean it all off and replace with some other thermal compound :)
