Stock cooler or something else?

Hi

I'm about to place my upgrade order this morning, and had everything down except CPU cooler. Slipped my mind completely. I'm not looking to overclock, I'm just after a nice stable and silent machine. I have an Antec Solo Quiet, Asus P5KC Combo & Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (3.00GHz).

Will the stock cooler and fan be good enough, or should I push the boat out and go for a better solution? I'm going for "as quiet as possible".

I had looked at the Asus Silent Knight II, but obviously I don't want to spend £30 extra if you guys think the stock cooler will do the job nice and quietly anyway.

Any help offered would be appreciated.

Cheers

The stock coolers for intels tend to be hald decent to be perfectly honest :)

Best bet is to put it on, and see how noisey you think it is :) They tend to be temperature controlled anyway on most boards as well.

But if your not overclocking, it should be adequate.

I am not planning to overclock but I bought a Tuniq Tower anyway. Not only is it beautiful but also allows me to have a whisper quiet fan going through it.

It comes with a rheostat so if I ever need any extra cooling juice, just whack up the knob!

Scythe Infinity for me. If you're not overclocking and your case has good airflow then it can run with the fan switched off though you'd want to power it up when the CPU is under load even then it's almost silent at 1200rpm.

Thanks guys. In that case, I'll try it stock first and see how it goes. If not I'll take another look.

Cheers

From what a lot have said they are apparently quite good, some people have overclocked using these aswell
