Hi,

I've just received my new AMD Athlon 64 4000+ cpu and cooler today and I basically need some advice.

The stock fan has a square of thermal paste already applied to the bottom of it, I have a tube of artic silver and I was wondering if I need to apply any to the cpu or just attach the fan with the paste already applied.

Thanks

Greg

No thermal paste required if there is a silver pad on the bottom of the heatsink and it hasn't been used before. Make sure you remove the plastic cover from the pad first.

The generic stuff is actually fairly good i've heard. Its certainly always worked well for me.
If your concerned over the 1 or 2 degrees difference the paste makes you should be using a decent heatsink as that will make far more difference.

Someone using the stock heatsink isn't going to really care about the tiny difference arctic silver makes compared to the larger difference a decent heatsink would make. If your not overclocking the stock cooler will be fine and so will the stock paste.
