Hi all I set up old pc parts for a browsing rig and only had the stock intel HSF left,
thought it wouldn't be that bad so used the stock pre-applied paste on a LAPPED E6300 at stock clocks and volts

Realtemp says 60 degrees idle!

So off it comes and a clean install of AS5, 58 degrees still!

I knew it wouldn't be stellar but not THIS bad haha

Suggests a bad mount, specifically one of the pins not making it all the way through. Difficult to check without looking at the back of the motherboard.

That seems likely . . . it can get worse though, my mates prebuilt system with an E6600 at stock was idling at 60C? and flew up to 75C-80C under Prime! :D . . . took it apart and was amused to see half the pin wodged to one side preventing any chance of the heatsink locking snug!

Which E6300 you using?

If it's the newer Wolfdale core then the chip should be idling at about 30c-35c @ Stock 2.8GHz with the supplied retail HSF

I've got one in a cheapy uATX board with a mild 3.3GHz overclock using the stock HSF on Quiet-Mode in a sealed case with one fan and I can't get the chip up to 60c even under LinX full load?

Its the 1.86ghz E6300

Ah well one pin I don't hear the 'click' on as well as the others, so i'll try and make sure I am mounting properly...
i'll look at the pins themselves too, cheers
