Stock on 10400F vs £30 spend

Is there any point in using the stock cooler for non OCed processors like the 10400F if you have the money (say, £30) to spend? I was looking for a low profile like the Noctua NH-L9x65 (just for aesthetics, I really dislike the size of my old Hyper 212 evo) but it seems like the best value for money is something like the Alpenfohn Ben Nevis or similar.

You won't get a noticeable performance bump but an aftermarket cooler will run quieter than a stock one.

I really wouldn't want to use the stock cooler long-term, just for quality of life if nothing else.

Both good points. Audibility is not a huge issue for me, but then I may have forgotten what a noisy fan sounds like. Longevity is key.

OK, built the machine last weekend and I'm getting 85 running handbrake. Quiet 'jet engine' noise doesn't bother me actually but those creeping temps do, especially after running with a Hyper 212 Evo before. Really enjoying the look of the low profile fan (even stock) but not sure about the longevity of this. Any actual decent low profile fans? Wasn't that convinced even by the performance of the Noctua LH9 etc. but perhaps someone can convince me.

Have you tried Cryorig C7. A friend of mine has one on his 9600k and sees 78c while running cinebench r23 at 4.6ghz 1.25v. Should see a small temp drop maybe 5c could be more over your current cpu cooler

I looked at it but was off-put by some thermal benchmarks under load. Interesting though - perhaps I would see better improvement too since 10400F is 65W TDP.

micky has found a better low profile cooler. while it costs more it definitely a go to.

Yes, thank you both - the Pallas looks great (especially 140mm version) but I guess at that price I should probably just opt for non low profile and better thermals.

If the stock cooler is running hot now it will struggle in the summer months

after market cooler has a bit more headroom.
