Stolen Parcel. Need advice please.

So I bought something off ebay to the value of around £100 (motherboard bundle for one of my kids) and I assumed it would require a signature like 99% of the other expensive parcels I've had delivered. After some length of time of no sign of delivery, I decided to check ebay and it said the parcel had been delivered and left in a safe place and a card posted. I looked on royalmail website and there's a picture of the parcel left on my doorstep. They never rang the bell, just dumped it, snapped a pic and gone. Didnt even leave a card either. This was at 11.30 sat and I'm assuming they was in a hurry to get everything posted so they can clock off and go home. I've certainly never had a parcel delivered by royal mail after 12 on a sat before.

Now the problem is, I live on a busy 4 lane dual carriageway and there's multiple carehomes just a few doors away in both directions, plus its a main route to get from 1 Town to another, so obviously there's lots of people walking past and cars queuing in traffic outside my house. I've contacted the seller and they're of no help, so I contact ebay and they say to contact royalmail and have a good look around and if no luck, ask them (ebay) for help. I have spoken to someone at royalmail but they wasn't much help either.

The part where I need help is convincing ebay to refund me rather than just tell me to sort it out with Royal mail. IMO it's the sellers responsibility to sort this out with royalmail. They agreed to the terms, they decided to include insurance or not, they picked the wrong service and the postage contract is between the seller and r.m. I don't think its fair how I lose out because the seller wanted to save a couple quid by choosing the cheapest postal service, it should have been sp3cial delivery covered for the value of the item. Ebay need to refund me, and the seller needs to claim off the insurance (if they included it) and that's the end of it.

What's the best way to word my message to ebay? I'm at the stage where it's giving me the option to ask ebay to step in and decide and I don't want it going awry and me losing my money. I've never had to deal with anything like this before and I'm just so bloody fed up tbh. I'm not loaded by any means and it's looking like I've gotta find another bundle and more money if this goes wrong.

Please help if you can because I'm stressed to the max, I've had a pretty serious incident with an elderly family member this week, so I haven't really been able to sort this out as quick as I'd like, but it's been a week since I complained to ebay, and I'm afraid they're going to just close the dispute if I don't respond in time.

Thank you so much for all the replies. They've been ever so helpful in finding out how ebay and rm work and i find it all **** poor. Ebay have closed the case and refused my refund. It's really put me off ebay and rm and I'll be ordering one of those cam doorbells off amazon, how are amazon with issues like this? I know they use a password system which seems pretty foolproof and ebay should implement it, no password, no parcel where only the buyer knows the password.

I'm beginning to think it was the parcelman who nicked it, I mean, why wouldn't you at least ring the sodding bell unless you've got some ulterior motive going on, and as someone said, it's that time of year when expensive goodies are floating about the place = peak nicking time.

I was angry at the seller to begin with, but I think even if they sent it signed for, a dodgy postman could easily scribble something as a sig and take it for themselves, is anything guaranteed anymore these days. I just feel everything is turning to ****, must be my age I guess lol.

Asking my bank is an interesting suggestion. I had no idea they could intervene in something like this, but if they did reverse the payment, wouldn't ebay be chasing me for the money then? And closing my account or debiting my bank again?

Can you file a complaint directly from the website?

Also ring local police, report a theft, ask for a crime number.
report crime number to ebay
With the case being closed, I think a new complaint would fall on deaf ears. I'm going to be asking my bank if they can do anything, so I will be getting a police crime number before I start that process. Someone else mentioned claiming on the mis selling of the postal service. Now, I use the app most of the time but it's got limited info on what exact postage service he used, but after using the Web version of ebay on the laptop, I see that the seller has indeed used the postal service as advertised, they used r.m tracked 48 but I assumed it would have been signed for special delivery.

I've learned a valuable lesson in looking at what postal service they're going to be using on pricey items. The app version just give the price, the Web version shows the service they intend to use.
