Since I have been made redundant I thought inbetween job searching I would try and get into/back to some sort of shape.

I do not have a gym membership so have been on a couple of runs and have been exercising indoors. I have a skipping mat and have been doing about 30mins of skipping a day along with pressums, situps, bicep curls and hand grip things.

My arms and chest are starting to look better and I do feel a lot more healthy than a couple of weeks ago. What other stomach exercises can I do on a mat? I have been raising my legs with fingers on my temples then sitting up.

Is there a better way or other methods of training my stomach?

I have also been eating quite healthily - low fat milk with shredded weet/oats, tuna brown pasta, brown rice, sweet potato, chicken, bit of cheese, brocolli and fresh fruit smoothies

I personally like bicycle crunches because I can do a lot of them and all you require is a mat (or lay on your bed if you get lower back ache). Also being a twist/side-to-side motion you tend to work all of your stomach unless traditional sit-ups, I tend to finish a 2x100 cycles with 20 simple sit-ups.

I've definitely noticed a difference in stomach muscle size and it has helped flatten mine - probably from the muscles growing in length.

everything your doing seems fine within your means, the only other thing that i could suggest would be use the weights combined with stomach exercises.

when doing a situp - hold the weight in your hands behind your head.

i would start with a 10kg weight do as many as you can, then drop down to a 5kg weight then do as many as you can, without any rest in between.

repeat this 4 or 5 times.

then try upping the weight after a week or two if you can.

How do you do "bicycle crunches"?
Will try doing situps with a weight behind my head but I am rubbish at them without a weight
What are "Body weight squats"? Are they just squats without weight
plyometric?

Bicycle crunches are where you lie on your back and lift you top half up as if you were doing a low crunch, hands by temples with elbows out to the side. You then try to touch your left elbow with your right knee (bending your leg so they meet around the waist area). You then go back to the starting position and do the same with the right elbow and left knee. This is without lowering from the crunch or putting your feet/legs on the floor. As well as exercising the mid section it also helps with balance and coordination.

You could also try doing situps with an action when you are at a 45 deg angle from the floor (i.e. bouncing a ball against the wall and catching). These killed me ;).

Body weight squats are squats without additional weight. You can put your arms out straight for better balance. If you find it easy, do it slower and concentrate on form.

As for ploymetrics, check out this link. The links off this page have some fun animations and sample exercises.

Look on youtube for examples of bicycle crunches and plyometrics.

I did some plyometric press-ups last night for the first time and they are bloody brilliant! :)
