I'm currently on a 775 mobo, shortly upgrading to an 1155.
I need more USB ports and was wondering about one or two of these:

My nooby questions are:

1/. This won't actually transfer data at USB3.0 as (I'm certain) my 775 doesn't support 3.0... will it?

2/. What would I use the internal USB for?
I've no need for the mentioned AK-ICR-10U3 dock/card reader. I heard a wireless dongle is one idea, but it may be too shielded by the case...?

3/. Molex 4-pin connector? It isn't powered via the mobo, then?

4./ Are they simply plug in, install drivers and that's it?

1. It will work at USB 3.0 speeds as it's the card itself that's intelligent not the mobo.

2. Up to you

3. Mobo probably can't provide enough power for USB3 on a 1x PCI-E connection

4. Yup

Hey, thansk for the swift reply!

1/. Really? I could write from a flash drive via this card to my hard drive at USB3 speeds? Cool!!

2/. Could I connect my front panel USB3s via this (I have it connected via the included adapter to the mobo header atm), perhaps? Or is there something else that would be of use, do you think?

Yes the cards on APU is where the speed comes from. Any PCIe slot is fast as hell anyway for USB. Yes you could connect your front USB3.0 to the car but only with the cables coming out of the back and into two ports. or one inside and one coming outside. Unless you can find a 4 port USB3.0 card with two ports on the back and a two port header inside.

My USB3.0 is connected to a Molex. USB3.0 can support 900mA per port as standard, more for some, so the Molex is needed.

We're still in the (fairly) early stages of USB 3, there's a lot of hubs and cards around that are a touch problematic so do have a good read around first.

Before you buy it check the reviews on Amazon as it only get's 2 stars and looks like it suffers from a lot of problems.

Hmm... that's annoying.
OK, are there any particular PCI-E or even PCI USB expansion cards (I can just access my 2nd PCI after installing the 6950 beast) that you'd recommend?
OCUK have the StarTech ones - Any good?

I suppose I could live without USB 3.0, having never had it to begin with, but I do need an additional minimum of 4 external ports.
An internal one would be useful if the wi-fi dongle does work through the case.
