Stop............. Kuro time

without exif all your pictures are useless. and besides, we are all using lcd's to view the images on which makes it even less than useless. they only thing pictures like that are good for are to compare against each other when you KNOW the same camera locked to the same settings was used to take the photos.

err no they're not. Maybe if you increase brightness to 100% In reality my M86 was like this

1-1.jpg

Backlight 2/10 suitable for pitch black room, for movies.

What i meant is thats what an LCD would look like on a full setting.

My A656 is pitch black. Blacker than all of those Plasma's pictured

Yes but you're forgetting 10 second exposure. So if you decrease brightness on that picture, with the LCD to known black level (have to do it on a CRT) then what you get is what the Pioneer's are like.

your missing the point, you cant show the actual black level of a plamsa (or any other display really) when viewing that photo on a display which itself is severely limited in black performance. they are only a gauge to compare to eachother and obviously, they are over blown completely but it is hard to capture black level as it actually LOOKS to you with a camera.

and anyway like i said, without exif data, they are all meaningless.

i was actually replying to simon but anyway, you still cant compare anything without the exif data in the photos. otherwise everybody is shooting for different goalposts and makes the whole thing rather pointless.

Quick question Ad did you have to buy the stand separately?

There seems to be conflicting reports on different websites as to whether the stand is separate or not

I bought a 5090 recently and I got a free fixed table stand with it for £2000

(well to be fair I paid £2200 incl a hdmi humax pvr)

A swivel stand or wall mount are usually extra - hope that helps

WOAH

Cheapest price I've heard so far!

Fancying emailing me where you got yours? ;)

Yup didn't come with a stand. The standard one was £99 I think and the swivel one I have is about £179

But I got mine at launch so obviously paid a bit more, now down to £2200+ (but make sure to go for a 5yr warranty,I gotteh D&G one free). Don't care that I paid a bit more though well worthwhile, and after going mad with these cheap HD-dvds (have 60+ now), Im still marvelling at how good it looks. Especially BBC broadcasts which blow any tv out of the water by a country mile.

Will get some more pics up soon as the gf has a nice new canon camera. I'm such a show off with this set :D

Come on, thats not even a black screen, and if it is its totally burned in

The guy who took the pictures (mark800) did say that these long exposures are not what you would see in real life and are amplifying the problems. The picture of the PZ85 shows why you should never leave the tv on dynamic mode or on static images for too long. That tv had been abused a bit too much, but still looked good withteh naked eye.

go take a look at the Kuro 9G's in a store if you haven't already.

there was one setup next to a Sammy Plasma 50" and even with the stores bright lights the difference in black levels and general contrast were astonishing......funnily enough in a few other stores, one of the big retailers on Oxford St especially the 9G range looked nothing special.

i think they must sabotage them so that they can still shift the other brands ;)

Talking of screen burn on plasmas, I am very confused about something.

When I play FIFA 09 (demo) on my Samsung plasma, I can play for as long as I want it seems and the score/radar/player names do not burn in at all, not even a hint of it. However if I leave it on the pause menu for 5 minutes, and then continue the game, I see some slight image retention which then fades after about 1-2 minutes.

Why is that?

nope, sorry can't agree. samsungs are crap once you have seen a pioneer. everything looks blured and made out of plastercine (if thats how you spell it) it's 100% true what they say. you get what you pay for.

It was on Tottenham Court Rd in London - but they only had one in stock at the time (still in the shop from earlier delivery)

Completely agree - thats why I hunted around because most shops insist you buy in shop to get the 5 year gaurentee (think it may be Pioneer insisting)

Im not 100 per cent convinced I have to say, there is nothing wrong per see I just expected a more jaw dropping experience once I got it home moving from a 40" Samsung lcd (even just in the size of the image) similar to when I moved from 32" to 40" 18 months ago or so, it just didnt happen though

Moving this one was a backbreaker though hahaha

Same as a Fiat Punto is crap after you drive a BMW I guess.

However for most people, they don't want to/can't spend £2000 on a TV

Look at avforums thread on this model or within options use "orbital" which gets rid of this image retention - havent seen it myself yet but this is a well known phenomenon

(ps orbital minutely changes the plasma pixels being used by a logo or menu so that image retention doesnt occur - it can also be used to "clean" a panel after an image has been displayed too long)

Depending on the model you are talking about - some Samsung's are very impressive indeed, and in most cases as good as this pioneer in front of me
