I have a router in my lounge and a switch box in my bedroom with a few devices connected to the switch box

Any way I notice that my HTPC keeps changing IP address . well the last number from the address does.. Its a nightmare as I have remote controls which I need to keep updating to work (using my phone)

Is there a way to force a standard IP address ?

Thanks :)

Either give it a static IP or add the HTPC into the DHCP reservations list on the router.

This quite simply.

I had this nightmare yesterday after my Apple TV got a new IP address from our router (new homehub as last one fried so not really been setup)

Ended up just pinging IP's until I got a reply!

Properties on the network adapter > Properties on the IPv4 protocol > Set to Manual instead of Obtain from DHCP and type the IP you want.

Make sure it is outside of your current routers DHCP range.

Better to use a MAC address based reservation on the router DHCP server though.

I prefer setting DHCP reservations on the router rather than static IPs on the OS-side, simply because you only have to do it once as long as you have that NIC/device.
