Stop the bus, time to get off.

A 457 is a temporary visa.

English is my first language, but if I don't get a high score in that and I fail to get the visa app in before the 1st July. I can kiss the whole idea good bye.
It's just a points scoring exercise.
Same with the skills assessment.. more points

As mentioned, where I'd hoped to to move to was Just south of Brisbane (sort of Sunshine coast / gold coast area) but looks like now it may be Victoria, old family friend lives out there and owns some sort of transport company I believe.
Play it by ear really. depends where I can get a job at the end of the day.

I was born there and can hold an Australian passport. If I want to go out there it's as simple as going to the embassy and getting one. Jealous? :p

Rules change on 1st July?

I'm about to start looking into it myself and as a Mechancial Engineer I might have a chance on the skills front but I know sweet F.A about tnaything else :D

Good luck, sounds like quite a step!

OP, I don't know your personal situation but emigrating to the other side of the world with no family/spouse support is a pretty big undertaking. Is this definitely what you want to do?

Hope all goes well m8, but its worth the hassle and if it doesn't work out, well at least you gave it a shot.

I liked Aus when i was there.

Given your job I am absolutely amazed you qualify, I thought they were a lot more strict?

Whole thing seems a bit weird, a year ago you were on here posting about your huge levels of debt, now you are spending £5k+ to try and emigrate to the other side of the world without a solid career

Glad if I go over there it'll be on a working holiday visa followed by (hopefully) sponsorship!;)

tis my plan if I don't get a job after graduating (again).:/

Yes the 457 is a temporary visa (up to 4 years) but a friendly employer can convert that into Permanent Residency within 6 weeks of arrival. Definitely the cheaper option and its the route i took.
Im still a bit confused about the IELTS as i would have expected any points requirement to be awarded automatically. I never had to do anything like that for 457 though things change i guess.... i did mine 5 years ago.
Got Permanent Residency 2 years ago and Citizenship last year.

You can have my 457 visa if you want, im trying to GTFO out of there. Luckily Im in Thailand this week but have to back there over the weekend.

why does everyone think that australia is some sort of dream place to emigrate?

for a start its full of the most obnoxious people I have ever met, its like that annoying homes down under daytime tv thing on bbc 1, it really grinds my gears they think its amazing and end up broke and hating it after a month!

Australia has far more going for it than the UK. As has been said some things are cheaper and some things are more expensive. However, wages in some sectors can be very good and the general standard of living is higher. An Australian has a longer life expectancy than someone living in the UK, so worth a move for that alone :)

Good luck with the emigration process, it's a rollarcoaster ride but worth the investment in time, stress and money.

Personally it's because I have a much greater chance of getting a very well paid job in a vocation I enjoy at the moment. I guess if your attached/have more experience/do another job then none of that really counts, but a year or two in another country for a bit of a change is right up my street.

If that's genuinely what you think then I don't even know what to tell you.

Wow.
