Stop the bus, time to get off.

That sounds like a rather stereotypical view of Australia?

It was an off the cuff joke comment. :p

OP, I don't know your personal situation but emigrating to the other side of the world with no family/spouse support is a pretty big undertaking. Is this definitely what you want to do?

It's exactly the reason I am deciding to do it now. No ties, no hassle trying to convince a partner to come along, no kids to up root from school and friends, no family i feel close enough to to warrant feeling like I'll miss them.
This country can kiss my ass. :D

Given your job I am absolutely amazed you qualify, I thought they were a lot more strict?

Whole thing seems a bit weird, a year ago you were on here posting about your huge levels of debt, now you are spending £5k+ to try and emigrate to the other side of the world without a solid career

I have a solid career (I have a couple actually) and I am probably more skilled than you realise.
Debt will be paid off completely at the end of this month, I've been working my balls off to do so and as you commented in another thread about the fact I've not bought a single thing for myself for a good year or so now, (you said it sounded boring and sad or something) I can count on one hand the times I've been out on the lash and I haven't had any Holiday since a work mate wanted to go to Ibiza in 2009.

If that's genuinely what you think then I don't even know what to tell you.

Wow.

yes it is, in my experience!

I cant believe I wasted £800 on a flight when I went a few years ago, I much prefer other places in the world and australia is one I dont ever want to go back to

Each to their own. I'd pick Aus over the US any day of the week. Then again, I'd also pick Canada or NZ over the US too.

I'll be too busy getting a tan and scuba diving to use the internet ;)
You forgot to add fighting off all of the poisonous insects as well ;).

Bite into its abdomen like a big black mini chicken kiev. :p

I'll stick it on the barbie and have it with some shrimp. Om nom nom :D
I've dived with sharks and blue ringed octopus, I've nearly driven over some sort of sidewinder and have taken photo's of the poisonous flora and fauna over there.
To be honest, , it doesn't faze me in the slightest.

Wow.

Whats so wow about that? The guy doesnt like the place, hes entitled to his own opinion. FWIW neither do I; I can see the appeal for some people, but for me there is none.

Not sure on the place myself, but it's great that you have the up and go in you to do this. To be able to change your life at any age is a VERY positive thing to do.

Best of luck with the move. :)

If you were to work for a company over there on a 457 visa you have the option to take permanent residency after 1 year; depending on the company they may even sponsor you for it.

£700 retention fee
£700 agent fee
£2100 skills assessment fee
£2575 Visa application fee
£190 Medicals
£115 IELTS test
£35 police checks

Holy cow, your getting ripped off mate.

I am in the same boat as you but applying for the 176 sponsored visa with my Missus and child included under me. The agent i am using is Mara registered and an Australian solicitor. She charged me €1000 and that her total fee.

Paid 400 odd dollars to the Aus computer society to get my skills assessed.

And the actual fee for the visa to the australian government was only about €1900. All paid and awaiting to be called when i need to supply a medical and Garda reports.

Good luck with the visa application though.

Im still a bit confused about the IELTS as i would have expected any points requirement to be awarded automatically..

You only need to do the ielts exam if you dont have enough points to qualify for the visa. As your from a native english speaking country you get i think 10 points, but to get the full 25 you need to get 7+ in all bands in the ielts. If i was not going for the 176 sponsored and instead for the 175 visa i would need the ielts for the extra points.
