Looking to upgrade from my 6600/970GTX build from eight years ago and keen on the 9800X3D comming out shortly. What I'm not too keen on is waiting until the next gen of GPUs are out, nor waisting money on a current gen only for it to be superseded shortly.

What is an affordable GPU that will work on a Dual UHD monitor for the short term? 7600/7700XT new? Or even worth looking at second hand cards?

4K and affordable don't really fit in a sentence, but anyhow, I'd say a 7600 is too weak for that. I'd suggest a 6750 XT, unless the 7700 XT dips a hefty lump under £350 again.

7800 XT or 4070 non-Super near or under £400 would be next best, but at £400 I guess that's not a stopgap anymore.

Alternatively you could go for a cheap 6600 and pray that FSR can do the business at 4K (I'm not hopeful for newer AAA games :o).

Do you have the Dual UHD monitor now?

If no, wait untill new GPU's are out and then buy both.

If yes, buy a cheap 1080p/1440p monitor to tide you over till the new gpu's are out.

Second hand 6800xt for about £300ish would be a good bet or even a 6900xt/6950xt second hand but then your heading towars 4070/super/7900 gre pricing

I keep thinking 6900xt should be £300 on the used market but people keep paying closer to£350 for them!
