Is there an official method to stop the FAH service from downloading more WUs once it's finished the current one? I want to have another go at loading Linux and the SMP client so I'd like a tidy shutdown at the end of the current WUs on that PC.

When it's nearly done stop the service and run the client with the -pause flag. This'll tell it to finish what it has and not get anything else.
ALternatively you could just mess up the connection settings (like telling it to go to a proxy that doesn't exist). You'd then wait for it to try sending then run it with the the flag telling it to send that particular WU in the queue.
