Stopping trainers from smelling.

I've got a pair of trainers I've been wearing for ages, they've begun to hum pretty bad... I bought a "shoe spray" that is supposed to stop them smelling and it works till I wear them again but is basically worthless.

I thought about putting them in the washing machine in a pillow case but wasn't sure if this would damage them.

Then I spoke to my brother and he said I should put them in the freezer

He seems to think it will stop them smelling. Anyone got any ideas if this is true?

Don't want to ruin my trainers but they reek and I can't afford to get any new ones.

Any thoughts/ideas?

Cheers,

G

Tips

1 - Don't wear the same pair of shoes/trainers everyday.
2 - Wear fresh socks all the time
3 - If you have to wear it again, let it breath for 24 hours first

And yes you can wash it in the washing machine in a pillow case.

also you can get soem great stuff from scholl for your trainers and feet to stop the smelling.

Let your feet get some air.

Wash your feet with soap everyday, including inbetween toes.

Wear shoes that have air holes in the toe.

Thats what I've been using and its rubbish mate :/

I've got the foot spray one and the shoe spray one. The foot spray one works I guess but my feet don't smell so bad unless I put them in these trainers LOL

The odor control shoe spray they do is useless, it just masks the smell.

I think the reason they smell so bad is cause I once ran in them with no socks. They have never been the same since :/

But yeah like I say that Scholl stuff was a waste of money :(

/edit I've had them for like a year and they are still in mint condition other than the smell so I'm up for trying to sort it if I can.

I've actually put them in the freezer LOL dont know if it will work but it sounds reasonable, my bro says it will kill the bacteria thats making them reek which makes sense I guess. Don't know how long to leave them in for but I reckon over night should be enough if its gonna work.

Always wear socks.

Whats the bets you wore them a a few times without socks? :)

That will be the cause im sure of it. All that bacteria growing and festering in there...

Correct.

Ive had a pair of asics since 2000/2001 and they smell fine after using them for years of gym use.

I would stick them in the washer and then so as above. You could also rpelace the insoles too...

Lol wear the shoes frozen :D

Start from having showers, stinky :p

I would wash them, I have washed trainers before and they came out fine, just don't wash them in hot water (I am pretty sure 30c is going to be ok, just use liquid detergent).

They are still in the freezer LOL

Gonna go to bed in a few and I just hope I dont have to go anywhere 1st thing tomorrow lol.

Suprised no one mentioned Musturd
:) :)

You really think that will stop the smell

On a more serious note: Smelly trainers come from smelly feet. Check carefully for athlete's foot and toe nail fungus and get any signs of it treated.

This man is absolutley correct. I am a terribly sweaty person and when I got brand new trainers they would have to be thrown out after 3 months due to the smell, as my feet were so sweaty. However I bought the scholl stuff and have had no problems since, it has been an absolute life saver!! Make sure you get the right one, it is in a pink can!
