it is not just a matter of smoking, it's a matter of healthy life in general.
my gf's uncle, footballer, never smoked a cig in his life, always a maniac with healthy eating, never ate a single fast food in his life, always running everyday until he was 42... when he dropped dead.
One of my grandfather's died from lung cancer but that was on top of a disease which I do not know what it's called in English, but he was cutting marble when he was working and all the dust went into his lungs etc etc.
He used to smoke every day, drink alcohol everyday from 4am generally living a very unhealthy life.
He was 78 when gone but he was ok until he was 77.
Second grandfather. Builder. Worked hard all his life, health maniac, living a quiet life but exercising all day due to the type of his work(no machines back in his day). Parkinsons disease. Couldn't even walk to the toilet without falling down, peeing himself and catching pneumonia. Died at 72. Was like that for 5 maybe more years.
My father's family, all of the females died at 30 because of cancer. None of them ever smoked (hell there wasn't even tobacco when my great-great-great-grandmother lived and died).
Point is, you never know how you are going to die. It might be cancer, it might be from heart attack, maybe a stroke. You never know.
Enjoy life as you see fit, have fun and don't care what anyone else says.
Personally, I smoke one cigarette a day after work nowadays, except on the weekend when I go out I might smoke around 5. I exercise everyday and eat healthy, try to avoid fast food, eat my vegetables, take my vitamins and sleep well. If cancer comes knocking on my door, let him come, I'm not gonna stare death in the eyes with a pathetic "why didn't I live my life the way I wanted" look, I like smoking, I am NOT addicted and I will continue to smoke until I've had enough(or die of lung cancer).
Anyhow, good luck to all of you that want to quit, all the best. The thing to remember is do not be enslaved to a substance.
