Whos got them?

Is it me or they absolutely useless. Theyre set to be on at night obviously but come evening theyre mildly warm, hardly warm enough to heat a room....

During the night when its on i set the output to minimum....but seriously can it store full heat inside all day and when i get home blast it all out? i highly doubt it. Therfore i think its a waste of energy ahving all that heat stored in which essentially is dissapating uneconomically or not efficeiently? if that makes sense?

Plus what annoys me is that as theyre hot/warm in the morning it would be a waste to air out my flat in the morning/day as all that heat ive 'built up' is wasted :(

Whoever invented this method of heating is a pillock IMO and it does not work well as im always cold. There is a booster switch with a convector but google says that uses 3 times more electric energy to power it:(

Ive not had my bill through yet but after googling it seems that it may well be through the roof as were using electric fan heaters also :(

Sorry just needed to vent. I feel better now as the windows are open on this sunny (but cold) day and the heat ive stored up last night is escaping as the flat needs some fresh air....

Had them in this house when I moved in 14 years ago, Switched them off straight away as they are Complete Crap.
You wake up to a stuffy house then let all the heat out the minute you open an outside door, If you have kids it's even worse as they Never shut doors.

I can understand, being in a block of flats (with electric heating only) myself. The one in here doesn't seem to be working anyway. Just wear more clothes, pretty much the only solution. Once it starts getting sub-zero cold in December\January then fan heaters will have to do.

yeh exactly. i think there is only one on economy 7 in the lounge/diner. the other one on the other side isnt hooked up to eco 7 as there is only one switch. so if i want to use it in the day it will cane my bills ive been told. Pieces of ugly S### too. Also the water is on eco 7 a huge tank heated overnight when i wont use even 1/4 of it as the shower is electric.

Why the hell ddidnt they put a combi boiler in FFS (BTW am i allowed to abbreviate swearing?)

I have them and they're fine if you use them properly.

Overnight, you need to set the output off - otherwise the heat will be escaping out the top rather than being stored in the bricks.

I never open the output as they tend to cool pretty quickly if you do - but leaving them closed gives a trickle of heat through the day which is enough to keep the place warm enough. If I want a boost, I'll use a fan heater or mains oil heater.

If they arent holding heat, you can replace the insulation in them. OK, they're a bit of a pain having to set them the day before, but you get used to it pretty quickly. My heating bill is tiny too

i cant close them! output at minimum is lowest setting and theres not much difference between the lowest MIN to say 5 (6 being the max)

Pull the cover off and make sure the output flap isnt stuck or something. Heat will still escape from the front (all round) when the output's closed, but when it's open it will come out of the top vent much more. Mine went on last night, and if I open the output to full now, the warm air rising is enough to keep a bit of tissue in the air if I hold it above.

Mine (and others I've seen) have an output from 1 to 6 - 1 is closed. If you move it from the highest output to the lowest quickly enough, you should hear the flap clink against the body as it closes.

They're a fiddle but they're more than capable of heating a room all day (provided the heater's the right size) - if not then there's something wrong with it.

The front of mine are too hot to touch for more than a second or 2 first thing in the morning after a full charge.

Yup. They work fine in offices where you're there just after they have heated up but in the domestic environment you're away all day while they dump all your hard-earned heat into an empty property. As a further kick in the face you normally have economy 7 leccy when you have storage heaters, so when you switch the direct heater on in the evening to stop yourself freezing to death it costs about 3 times normal rate.

Lose-lose situation in the home and used to cost me a fortune.

Had 3 in my maisonette, ended up putting gas central heating in, had gas boiler for hot water and econ 7 heating.

Only used the Econ 7 for one month, bought the property 30th April so did not need to use until Nov, Gas CH was commissioned 4th Dec :)
