Not sure how many people went for the Scroll Evoke over the OcUK Ultima 7" tablet when stock wasn't available but I'm hoping there's a few.

I got one for my son (he's only 3 lol, but it was partly for me too ;) )

Anyway I've been having a few issues and was wondering if anyone else had the same or anything else.

Some are annoying and others worse

1st. This has to be the worst of all, the unit for the first few days constantly locked up, resulting having to use the reset button (fine when I'm at home and have something around I can use) but if I'm out and about it might be a bit of a pain. Touch wood he's been using it quite a bit today and its not been as bad, in fact I'm not sure it has locked up fully once today maybe just the odd freeze.

2nd. Can't charge the device with it powered off? I plug in the charger and power it down and it automatically restarts with the psu connected?

3rd. App Icons too close to the top edge of the screen meaning I hit the google search button rather than the app (I know I can move the app icon down but still pretty basic function that's not right)

4th. Can't charge via usb

I'm sure there's more and hopefully they will be fixed with a firmware update. Build quality is fine and the screen quality I love, IPS definitely is worth the extra I remember having a sumvision 7" tablet and whilst that had no major problems the viewing angles were terrible.

1, 2 and 4 you will need to wait for a firmwire update.

As for 3, have you tried a different launcher? Apex and Nova are very popular ones and more flexible over the stock launcher (such as custom grid sizes which may help your problem).

Good stuff, hope its ok for you, im going to send this back, but chances are I bet they find nothing wrong with it and it doesnt lock up for them. Time will tell

Brilliant!

Feels like a quality product, nicely constructed.

When I first got it I thought I had a dud though!

Moisture on the inside of the display initially caused some weird lines, but that gradually disapeared through use and the gentle warmth from charging the battery. Now it looks perfect.

Never had a lock-up, although the display is occasionally unresponsive - probably busy doing something in the backround, no big problem.

You can't trickle charge via the mini USB - I believe that this is a limitation of the RK3066 chip. Frankly who cares because this is a painfully slow method of charging anyway.

I was expecting flash player to be absent, but it is in fact there, just not in the system icons - probably side loaded by storage options at the last minute.

It comes with a 30 day trial of defenix, but I chose to go with the free version of avast.

I read that one user had uncontrolable touch display issues whilst on charge - not me, it works perfectly when running with the charger.

It is very fast, great combination of hardware - the dual core cpu with quad core gpu is really very good.

Worst point; the battery capacity at only 3000 mAh is rather weak. 3500 mAh would have been fine but at this price point, I guess that something has to give.

I love this little tablet - for the money it is simply unbeatable. If it was available more widely over the christmas period it would have cleaned up and made a big noise in the android industry - but then it would have likely been more expensive.

I could see this selling as a bundle with a soft case, memory card and HDMI cable for around the £150 mark, which would make a fantastic gift, with everything that you need.

Why anybody would buy the scroll excel 2 at £90, when this baby is only a little more, is beyond me - the spec is so much better in every way.

Excellent.

Score: 8.5 out of 10

Sent mine back today got so fed up with the downsides of it, it has the spec to be a very nice tablet but seems Storage Options are as bad as any of the other unknown brands for support and general QC, for a comparison I got a Samsung Tab 2 7.0 Free with a Camera i bought today along with some cashback, the difference in quality is chalk and cheese, yes the evoke is a bit faster in gaming but in every other area the samsung is superior

Ive got the Excel 7". Its my first tablet & it's pretty decent. I mainly use it for web browsing but sometimes when I lock the device or unlock it, it will reset, its annoying, it sometimes locks up to but for like a minute or so, I want to learn how to flash it so I can put a different build on.

Someone on a forum has modified or built his own ROM or whatever they are called which extends battery life etc, want to give it a go
