I take seriously my iTunes collection, thousands of songs. hundreds of hours of tv shows and many, many movies...

To use Frontrow with all that makes for a very nice media computer believe me! (Need an Apple TV BAD).

BUT one of the most annoying things to sort out (for me) is storage. I use a ethernet network around the house, all very neat and tidy and a lot more hassle free than wireless.

Now, Time Capsule...I will be ordering one very soon when their stupid lead time drops from a month!. Excellent idea, although certainly not the first NAS.

For me a very simple way for me to sync Time Machine with it and make use of it by safeguarding my OSX installation and applications, although I already have a 320GB NAS it won't work with TM

What about my iTunes collection? This has been my main worry for a long time. I used the above mentioned NAS box with Tiger with no problem. Now we are on Leopard and with me using Airport Extreme, they don't like the NAS box no more :(

Titchard on here linked me to this new beast, and what a box?

http://www.drobo.com/

Sure some of you know about this, probably for some time but I've only recently checked out its specs. What a brilliant (if expensive) box, for numpties like me to keep my data safe 24/7 without much interface/options to mess up. (All automated).

My only fear is that if I purchased it, along with its gigabyte ethernet attachment, would it work well with Time Capsule? or best directly connected?

Opinions/Suggestions/Ideas Welcome Guys!

To be honest, there are better things you could buy with the cash from a Drobo and a Drobo Share. Sure, the usefulness of redundancy is very very good, but the price you pay for it is silly to me.

I think Drobo is a pretty cool device wouldn't mind one at all... but at that price (or maybe even a little more) I'd like to have Firewire and/or eSATA at least...

Was going to say the exact same thing.

Was very surprised to hear it was only USB-based.

I am really doubting the drobo now, for two reasons.

The Drobo Share attachment to allow you to utilize it on your network still has to connect via its USB, I'm sure this will bottleneck while transfer to and from the Drobo Share?

And secondly, as peeps have mentioned above! FireWire 800 is the way!

How about a Iomega 1.5TB? Can be stacked too I hear?

A lot of people will be happy to know that Drobo is now revised with Firewire 800.

I'm looking at it with a bit more intent now, as a backup solution.

Ohhhhhhh yes! :)

As much as I love my QuickDrive/eSATA Expresscard combo, I'd take one in a heartbeat now that they have firewire 800.

Even at 300 quid, I just love them - the form, the function, and now the performance to match.

It will do now, but bearing in mind that when USB 3 comes out it wont be a massive leap for these guys to incorporate it into the hardware.

Anyone here actually use a DROBO then ? My iTunes library has grown somewhat since I bought an AppleTV, so I'm looking at new and improved storage solutions. I could stick everything on a DROBO and not have to worry about backup.
