Reorganising my garage at the moment, and I need to come up with a neater way of storing my large 2 section ladder. I was just going to punch a couple of holes through the garage ceiling and hang some straps from the joists above - any suggestions on nicer ways to do this?

(Walls aren't an option, too much stuff to be possible!)

Make an under hanging shelf at one end of the ceiling,
Slot one end of the ladder into this,
Raise the other end with a hook/rope/pulley.

The advantage of this is that you are not manhandling a ladder at head height, you simply lower one end and have both hands free to find its centre of gravity.

Nice idea bitslice. Could do that easily enough, just need to grab myself a small plastic pulley and I'll be laughing. Cheers for that!

What are you trying to say about me Nightglow?!!!!

If I ever do something like that it will be for good old fashioned "because I can" reasons, not laziness :P.

Cheers for the youtube suggestion.

:D

YouTube is brilliant for ideas on workshop / garage storage, snaffled a few ideas to use when I get my new workshop built.

I'm usually a big believer that all storage issues can be solved via dexion, but unfortunately the ladder doesn't fit in that philosophy!

Well I never expected to be posting this, but I can't for the life of me find decent pulleys to order online that don't have an explicit disclaimer saying they can't be used for lifting. I could go the whole hog and get a block and tackle, but that frankly seems ridiculous.

Any suggestions of good places for this sort of hardware?

Cracking, thanks guys. Of all the places, never crossed my mind to check Amazon!

I'll stick with the manual method for now, but I promise to post up in here if I do something stupid and then acknowledge the need for an electric! (I will not, however, provide pictures :P).
