I've bought a big bag of mussels to cook over the next couple of nights, as I absolutely love the things. I know that they're best eaten as fresh as possible, so was just wondering whether they'll keep OK in the fridge for 24 hours or so, or whether I'm better off packing them with ice? Thanks!

The longer you keep them, the more will die, and you should only eat the ones which were alive when you started cooking.

A few hours before cooking (maybe even overnight) you should put them in a bowl of cold water and discard any which do not close when tapped.
Scrub them and then change the water
When you cook them, any that don't open should be discarded.
