Hi Guys

I purchased a 12" Macbook Pro last year and the Apple warranty ran out a few months back but the seller had 2 year SF warranty. I emailed them with the serial number and explained the issue, they replied asking for the shop purchase location, purchase customers name (sent them a copy of the purchase receipt) so they emailed to say call and arrange the repair..

They don't have a store near me (Letchworth, work place is Watford, ironic there is an Apple store here) Luton being the closest to me ,and that I have to physically take it to the store and then go back and collect it once the repair (estimated time 7-10 days)

I'm concerned this could turn into a pain in the rear .....

Assuming the warranty sits with them and in no way Apple

Cheers

Looking on the Stormfront website it appears the gaurentee will be with them for 3 years?

Nothing you can do now it's ran out of warranty with Apple. This is one of the problems purchasing from other places apart from Apple.

In the unlikely event a hardware fault occurs, please visit your nearest Stormfront store. One of the team will confirm the issue and if required, arrange for its onward transfer to our national Service Centre.

Yes, I have always had good experience with Apple lets see what SF perform like... I'd never buy from SF myself as I'm always a direct Apple person but picked this up as I said via eBay

Cheers

If it would have been covered by Apple warranty if you still had warranty time left then look into consumer law coverage..that way you can take it to your closest Apple store/AASP rather than further out.

It's totally irrelevant to the point but is this a MacBook or a MacBook Pro? You say MBP but also 12" and I didn't think there was a 12" MBP.

Sorry yes its a MB like these https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/buy-mac/macbook

I contact Apple online chat and he seems to think although it's out of AppleCare they will still repair it? I'm going to book an appointment at my local work Watford store
and see what they have to say

Like I said earlier, ask for it to be repaired under consumer law in a local Apple/AASP if you don't want to claim on Stormfronts warranty you still have. As long as there is no accidental damage, it will be covered up to 6 years from your purchase date. I stress you have to be certain there is no accidental damage though otherwise you will get charged. Also make sure you take proof of purchase with you, will save you time as they will require it if claiming consumers :)

Good luck mate, hope you get it sorted :)

He didn't buy it from Apple, he bought it 2nd hand off eBay where the original owner bought it from Stormfront. The 6 year cover is the responsibility of the original retailer the goods were bought from and I would expect this to be only for the original purchaser.

It is not Apple's responsibility to repair, this is one of the advantages of buying direct from Apple they would have repaired this despite being out of warranty.

Pretty sure he mentioned in the OP he had the purchase receipt...I missed the part where he said ebay??

However the 6 year consumer law will be covered by Apple regardless of whether it was bought directly from them as long as it was from an authorised seller, which I am sure Stormfront is??? So he could take it to any Apple store or AASP and get it repaired under consumer law.

The responsibility is with retailer which is Stormfast it doesn't mater that they are an approved seller for Apple. Stormfast are offering to repair the laptop which covers their responsibility under the Consumer Rights Act, which reading the details for I don't think covers second hand goods anyway.

That's quite strange then as I work for an AASP, we don't sell anything just repair. However we carry out/honor consumer law repairs all the time regardless of where they bought it, as long as they can prove they purchased it. All of our applications go directly to Apple who then supply the parts and cover the cost.

Not saying your wrong in what you are saying but I think in Apples case they took it upon themselves to cover this.

Those repairs are carried out outwith the Consumer Rights Act and surprising as I have been knocked back from an Apple store for an out of warranty iPad repair bought from John Lewis. John Lewis repaired it with zero hassle despite being over 3 years old. What AASP do you work for ?

What do you mean they are carried out with the Consumer Rights Act are you saying that is different to the Consumer law coverage? :) It is definitely called Law not Act on the forms and processes in Apples system. We do get rejections occasionally though I am not sure we get told why by Apple.

I work for the only AASP in Eastbourne as an ACMT, rather not name directly as I know people like to google but it's easy enough to find :)
