Anyone got a stove fan?

We had our stove lit on Christmas Day, despite the fact it wasn't that cold, but it simply had to be done. :D

I got thinking about those self-powered fans that sit on top and move the warm air into the room. I wondered if they'd move some air into the hall and beyond...

I've been on Amazon and there are loads. Some from what you may call 'proper' manufacturers and many chinese knock-offs.

I was hoping for a recommendation?

They are nice to look at but I can't say ours really changes the heat profile of the room much. When i really want to spread the heat I have fan hanging from the door frame blowing hot air out of the stove room.

I know a couple of people that have them and like them. They seem to work better if you have a dead spot where hot air gathers, and the fan can shift it into the room. My parent's-in-law have a big old brick fireplace with an arch over it, which now houses a log burner. The fan pushes the hot air that settles above the burner and under the arch out into the room.

The chinese knock-offs are just as good as the originals.
Personally I like them as it tells me when I need to add more fuel, or when it's running a bit too hot (as the bi-metallic strip lifts the base to help it cool). I'm not convinced as to the actual usefulness of moving the hot air around though (but then again, I live in a long thin tube, not a house!).

I had my stove installed last month and ive been looking at getting an ecofan. Dont know about the UK but prices start at $79 here for the smallest one. The stove top thermometer was a great buy, only $10 and lets me know if its getting too hot etc.

Well so they do :)
They seem to be a lot more complicated than I thought
My initial impression was that they were basically a chunk of metal that turned with the heat
You can learn a lot on these forums :)
