Strange Folders in C Drive

I seem to have built up a collection of folders in my C drive with names like

a74542c54399bc9cf8bacf3dd214784b

they have different content - some just have one file "MRT" - classified as an application.

I have put NGB in front of a couple and it doesn't seem to affect Windows operation. Any idea what they are please?

Thanks, Mel

I believe these are tied to windows update.

I remember seeing these on one of my other drives and couldn't understand what was generating. It turns out if your C drive doesn't have much space, windows update will dump them in the most emptiest drive.

They're temporary folders used by windows when installing those particular updates.

Very safe to delete

As others have said, safe to delete, it's where Windows Updates extracts some of the files it needs to install updates.

FYI The MRT application is Microsoft's Malicious Removal Tool.
