i am putting finishing touches on my exchange 2k3 & blackberry install. all looks ok but i have one thing that is bugging me that google hasn't been able to answer. i think its very simple but i want to confirm.

when i have email addresses like:

[email protected]

[email protected] etc these are email addresses that dont have a mailbox setup for them in exchange.

do i simply add them to the "email addresses" tab for the respective user i want picking them up in active directory?

i am guessing that is correct. following on from that, i have 7 domains that come in for each user. rather than putting [email protected] , [email protected] can i not just put sales@* then it will do them all?

cheers in advance for any help.

For "generic" addresses like sales or support, I'd use a distribution list and put the user/users who need to handle those e-mails into that. Makes life easier in the future.

If you add all 7 domains into Recipient Policy you won't have to manually add any e-mails to the mailboxes / DLs, the RP will auto-create the addresses based on the rules (assuming you haven't unticked the auto-update box for each user).

or just create a separate mailbox and tack it onto the relevent user(s) outlook.

trouble is with those generic email addresses (esp if theyre published on your website) ive found they get bombarded with spam so i like to keep them separate to prevent the users mailbox getting pounded.

Ja - especially if you have quite a few people who the mail is forwarded to - this could potentially increase load quite a lot.

public folder / extra mailbox is the best choice.
