Strange 3d marks scores...

Just increase ram for 4gb-8gb and added another 4870 in crossfire.

now crysis full graphics runs between 27-40FPS all maxed full AA depending on enemy on screen or not...

it used to run at 17-24 FPS.

But 3d marks 06 hasnt improved at all if anything has got worse (might be due to some plugins running)

but surely I should have seen an increase?

3D Marks 06 is tightly CPU bound... and that Phenom II really isn't helping in that dept.

To get higher scores in 06 you need a high clocked Quad core.

Use Vantage as 06 is 3 years old, its a waste of time running it on todays cards.

No your CPU is nowhere near powerful enough - even an 8800GT/4830 would probably show the same scores as your getting now in 06 on the same CPU.

You'd need a 4+gig Core 2 Quad or I7 to see any higher scores in 06 with those GPUs.

3dmark06 is about clocks....quad or dual.

I got nearly 23k with my old E8500 and 4870 512mb crossfire

Some games need a really good CPU to run smoothly, some just need a good GPU.

Is your CPU is a bottleneck, it's limiting the performance of the GPU, basically strangling it

Yes but 06 is old now. The difference in hardware between now and then makes it difficult for 06 to properly judge your system to todays standards.
