Strange ASUS P5K Dlx BIOS problem

Hello

I recently finished building a PC with the following spec:

ASUS P5K-Deluxe mobo
Conroe E6600
Crucial Ballistix 6400 2x1GB
BFG 8800GTX OC
Corsair 620HX PSU

Overall there don't seem to be any major problems but when entering the BIOS, after changing a setting and hitting the 'exit and save changes' button, the PC just switches off straight away. It then powers up again after a few seconds leaving a blank screen, no POST/beeps etc. I then turn the PC off and switching it on, an error comes up saying "Overclocking Failed!" (I have not tried to overclock everything is at stock?) and pressing F2 I can continue using the PC as normal.

There has also been one occasion where turning the PC on after a few hours (it shut down normally), this blank screen with no POST/beeps etc came up too - turning off the PC and turning it on again remedied it.

Any suggestions as to how I can make changes to the BIOS without this problem happening?

Thanks

It's always risky to flash a BIOS when the machine it not stable, but looking here it does seem others have had this error.

Well I've flashed from 0307 beta bios to 0311 official bios from Asus' http download site (not the 0311 beta bios that was on Asus ftp sites a few days before). All went well with no problems so far. Failed overclock recovery seems to have gotten better than before and that was already very good to begin with!

I must admit if your just save and exiting without major changes, is hardly overclocking.

This is going to make for a lot of reading, but try this.

Throws up lots, and I can't find what you call a solution :(

bit odd that one

try upping the vdimm on the memory

clear the cmos jumper.

i had something similar:

i upgraded the bios and loaded a profile
but got hte same error as you (overclocking fail)
loading defaults, the new bios had some additional
settings so i had to set it up manually again and
got it working fine.
