In nearly all of my games, if I turn around or approach a new area, FPS goes from 100+ to 30 and stays that way. But if I minimize then maximize the game, the FPS goes back to 100. And sometimes, it goes from 100 to 1FPS, and stays that way, with textures gradually getting black or corrupted.
The best example is in World of Warcraft - I go into Blasted Lands from Stonard at 100fps, but as soon as I enter Blasted Lands, FPS takes a dramatic hit. I minimize to desktop, then maximize the game, and the FPS is back to normal, in the 100+ region.
I'm really tearing my hair out now. I sometimes turn the computer off or hit the monitor in frustration, knowing that I've spent nearly a grand on something that is broken and have no fix in sight. To make matters worse, Rivatuner doesn't work properly, as on install, it says something about unsigned drivers, and won't let me monitor the card temperature or even touch the driver settings. It just says 'driver unknown'. No monitoring programs work for me.
I'm using a 8800GTS 320mb, with the official 100.65 drivers on Vista Home Premium x64. 2x1GB DDR2 800mhz and an E6300 at 2.8ghz.
