Strange boot issue.

Hey guys

I have recently bought an MSI Twin Frozr III 7870.

I installed it in my system yesterday and since then i have a strange issue.

Randomly when i boot the PC it refuses to post with the graphics card fan going 100% and doesn't post. I can then turn the PC off and on a couple of times and the issue reoccurs until i leave the computer off for around a minute and then i starts first time. However after this non boot issue has gone the computer can take ages to post compared to normal.

I have tried re-installing the graphics card and still run into the same issue. i have also checked the memory which seems to be fine. I thought it might a compatibility issue between the card and the board or power related.

Specs are as follows:

MD Phenom II 965 @ 4 GHZ
3GB DDR2 800 Ram
Asus M3N/HD-HDMI
Crucial C300 64GB SSD and Maxtor 250GB HDD
LG W2242S 1680x1050 Monitor
Corsair VX550w PSU
Current card: 7870 as mentioned above.

I hope you can help me with this issue Thanks in advance

Cheers

but what makes you say that?

Once im in windows no problems what so ever

Your "fault" just screams it's the PSU, they often become erratic when unable to cope, I'd be trying my best to lend a better rated PSU from a friend to prove this if I were you. However I am absolutely certain it is the problem! :)
Modern graphics card pretty much eat lower end PSUs these days.

Hey guys

A little while has gone by but the problem still exists. Today i took the PSU and tested it on a PSU tester it was intermittently failing on the 12V Rail. I have since replaced the PSU with a New Corsair TX750 V2. However this issue still continues, it is strange because i was certain psu from what you said and from the tester was showing. (tester showed it working then not which is the same issue it starts then it doesn't).

Any help would be great cheers guys.

Also to note with the bios speaker in after a while at 100^% i get the normal post beep but fan still at 100% nothing on the screen.

Hey guys

Just letting you know I've just tested the gpu in an older system with the TX750 and the card starts everytime perfectly. So i am thinking my issue is the motherboard.

So looks like im in the market for a new board. The problem is im a little stuck what to pick, Also my current board only supports DDR2 so also need a ram upgrade.

Any sugestions welcome :) I currently like the Gigabyte 990fx board.
