hey guys, not sure if anyone will be able to help but worth a pop.

i have o2 broadband and a netgear dg834g v2 wireless router. all has been working well for the last 12 months, however this last two weeks have been weird!

basically i get page can't be found on both firefox and ie8 every time i go and use my pc's and laptops in our house, nothing gets it going unless i restart the router. it will work fine until the next time someone tried to use the web. however the strange thing is.... utorrant and online games will work fine, it's pure web access only, i just finished playing cod4 on-line only to see the web was not working. I have now wiped the router doing a hard reset and hoping this has solved the issue. gonna call O2 and see what they say if the problem comes back as i suspect it will.... any ideas?

"Server not found" = DNS issue. Either it's O2's playing up (which wouldn't be a surprise), or your torrenting's making the router lock up.

my money is on O2, as have been using them for 11 months and the same with the torrents and the on-line gaming, never had an issue before. i just presumed the network was going down in general until i noticed i could still game and my torrents which are just tv shows continued to work,

just called o2 and had a dummy girl on the phone who asked me to delete my cookies and to make sure i'm using ie8 :D

It shouldn't fix itself if you restart the router though. That would point more towards torrent client opening too many connections.

yeah sorry mate, not being very clear web browsing goes, but gaming and torrents seem OK, have done a master reset on my router and keyed in all the settings, so far not had any issues, will try again tomorrow as see whats what

If it's still happening, try turning down the number of connections your torrent client is set to open.

just booted up my pc this morning and had the same issue, rebooted the router and fine, can't be torrents as have not downloaded any now for over a week.

Try another router? If it fixes itself every time you restart the router, it's very unlikely to be something at O2's end.

I used to get the same problem with the same router a few years back. At the time I was with Be* when the first started getting there DNS problems. To be honest I'd look at replacing the router at some point any way. It doesn't take load to well.

ok well i have the default o2 router which i can use to test and will also try a firmware upgrade, think i might be starting a 'spec me a router' thread soon :D

I had this problem when I was with BT, torrents would continue to download but surfing wasn't working and restarting the router was the only fix.

Eventually I replaced all my internal wiring and never had the problem again.

what do you mean with internal wiring?

ok fair enough, been working all pm since the firmware upgrade, if it fails again i will dig out the o2 bulk standard router and try that before i start the wire job

ihave been having problems with Be/o2 for the last few weeks also and i use OpenDNS servers for my DNS as o2's DNS servers were pants!

doing a tracert give me a problem with the Bethere.zone5 portal address (Bristol area) and an internal ip from Be's network that will not respont for 50/100 pings, this seams to be causing network drops and i am unable to game or access the o2 website to view my contract!

Any one know how i can fix this?

i posted on the o2 forums and there seems to be some good folks in the know on there, however for me either flashing the firmware on my router sorted it or it just went away the same way it came in and was a problem there end, either way mine has been solid for 3 days now so fingers crossed!

Great No probs here in Southampton/ Basset. The Netgear is the Broadcom chipset which can't really be bettered ( have one bought for peanuts at Burseldon Boot Sale) though I use the Thomson 780 WL as it's Voip with no Torrents probs - I recommend using Windows 7 build 7137
I use open dns
