A friend has a Dell Optiplex machine. He ran it without an AV for years and picked up loads of trash. So he decided to reinstall with the Dell discs to start again.
At a certain point in the install the machine BSOD's. I can't remember what the error code is though. We suspected the RAM, so we swapped that over for known working RAM and the same thing happens.
I installed Ubuntu 9.04 and it worked perfectly! Installed Win 7 x64 and it works perfectly! Why would installing XP cause it to BSOD?
