Strange cable in pre-built system....

Hey all.

I ordered a pre-built system and its awesome, ten times better than my old XPS 420 clunker!

However, I spotted the below today and wasn't sure why the cable is like this. Can anyone explain if this is ok as the sound is working so I'm a little confused whats going on....

It looks as if the older style AC 97 header has been cut off

its no bigger as its outta date now and the audio sucked. The HD Audio header is much better.

Always wondered about cutting these off myself but just left it be on a recent build for my Nephew.
