No, its not a not a hot tub on wheels!!

I have just taken delivery of a new hot tub, all good so far. It has a waterproof tft screen with it and mounted in the side of the tub is a Pioneer DVD/DIVX/CD player, standard car type single din. The problem is I didnt get the pop up speakers I was supposed to have installed, apparently its not possible on the hot tub I ordered, so they are mounted into the side of the tub playing out towards people not in the tub... That isnt much good to me in the tub wanting to watch a movie and hear the dialogue.

The company have agreed to cover the cost of another pair of speakers which I can mount onto the side of a partially open cabin the hot tub is sited inside which they will connect to the Pioneer.

Here comes the question! I have been looking for a pair of car speakers which are already mounted in some sort of case for wall mounting but cant find any.. Can I use conventional hifi wall speakers and wire them to the Pioneer? Can you link me to some car style speakers which I could fit which have their own box? It is hard to find details on the Pioneer, but I believe it is 4x50w output.

Mods, I thought about posting this in Hifi but suspect this is more car related due to the audio element, hope thats all right.

Thanks for the link, thats certainly more the idea but I just want a nice pro wood/plastic finish rather than a car carpet finish.

Can I use standard hifi speakers with the head unit?

You can use standard hifi speakers with the headunit, but hifi speakers will have different ohms to what car speakers would have. I don't think you will do any damage, but you may or may not sacrifice some sound quality.

I do apologise for my vagueness, its been over 10years since I was seriously into my car stereo's :)

You will be better off with hifi speakers than car speakers.

Car audio is designed to be used in a small confined areas and to use the door as a cabinet.

Home audio will provide you with a much better solution. I personally would use the line out of the head unit and connect it to a cheap power amplifier and 2 conventional speakers as the wattage output of the headunit will be poor (likely 2-4 watt RMS).

Edit: Or even easier why not buy a pair of active PC speakers and connect to the line out of the amp?

I appreciate the advice and suggestion but a seperate amp is no good for me. Power options are zero and there is nowhere suitable for an amp to go. I really need to run the speakers directly from the head unit.

The tub sits under a four posted structure with a felted roof to protect from rain. The back of the structure is walled, one side is walled and one side is semi walled, the front is totally open. As the tub is almost the size of the cover there is nowhere to put an amp or power it and keep it out of the elements.

I really need a direct speaker solution to the headunit.. :(

I will try and find some cheap hifi speakers to try out, thanks dhill.
