Strange Chrome behaviour?

Hi guys,

I've not used my desktop for a while so this might just be an updated 'feature' of the latest Chrome build but it feels weird to me... basically Chrome appears to have started running from startup - I think it always has (system tray), but now it launches - full screen. It also retains my recently visited pages, even after a restart.

I guess the easiest option would be to disable from startup but I was just wondering if there were any options in the app itself?

Thanks.

As far as I am aware there is not an option in Chrome to start on boot up.

That's going to be a windows thing.

I know mine doesn't on any of my machines

Close Chrome, leave the desktop to idle for 10 minutes or so, then restart the PC. Does Chrome open up again?

I sometimes notice this happening with Firefox and Explorer randomly, and I think I managed to pin it down to Windows "Pick up where you left off". To turn it off, go to Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in options then under "Privacy" uncheck "Use my sign-in info..." and it should stop it.

Has happened me a few times actually and i just presumed i had chrome open before i clicked shutdown. Never investigated it fully.

i think this is a "feature" of Windows 10. I've rebooted quite a few times and everything that was open before rebooting comes back exactly after restarting. It's sporadic though, but it's definitely not Chrome.

As above, i have had this and done some research into it and it's a new feature of a recent patch of windows 10. It will try to open everything you recently had open when you closed ( saving your session ) essentially. However it is annoying as hell as most of us don't want it to we want a clean desktop environment when we launch. My Microsoft excel always opens also, it's just another thing making me spend less time in windows and more in linux @pete910. I only use windows now for excel though im currently looking at libre on linux and the occasional game that doesn't work on linux thought that list is getting smaller by the week.

I've noticed this too. I'm not a Mac fan but at least macOS allows you to choose if you want everything to reopen when you start it up again.

Occasionally Firefox does this too on my PC.
I get it with Firefox too, gonna try that setting, ty.

Check services, Google update services in there?
It is, shouldn't be? I can disable from Ccleaner.

Interesting that this might be a feature of a recent Windows update, if it is, I hate it. As others have said, I'd rather start a fresh session each time. Odd thing is though, it's not consistent. I don't think it's doing it every time...

I always disable auto updates on ff/chrome etc. you never know what add-ons they will invalidate, how much it slows your strartup down etc.

i'm running chrome 56 , have good hygiene practices .. why let them mess with your system, for some stupid ui refinemnent.

it maybe autostarting because it did not shut down correctly last time

The auto starting of apps is caused by Windows. Settings > Account > Sign In Options > Scroll to bottom and disable it.

Apps have to be programmed to take advantage of this feature too. You can disable it in Firefox by:

In the address bar, type about:config and press Enter. Search for toolkit.winRegisterApplicationRestart double-click on it to set its value to false.

Sorry, where is this?

You must've missed my post, it's got the full instructions there:
