Strange colours on bootup

I'm going to post this in the software section, hopeful that software is the issue here.

When I boot OSX, I go to a login page. On the login page, the colours all seem very dark, apart from the background. It looks like it's the normal background, but the colours are all not right, the dialogue box seems darker and the background is a little dark but then the bit which is normally purple,.. is a horrid green.

I'm really confused as to what this is. But.. after I log in, the colours remain the same for approx 2 seconds, then suddenly change to being correct. It is just the bootup screen which is weird.

A friend has been using it for a short while, who has been plugging it into an external display, I am not sure if that is at all relevant, but I guess it may help

Any ideas? I can get a short video of this if it helps.
Thanks so much for any time / help!

Possibly the colour profile? When you log in to your user it's changing the colour profile back to the one you are used to.

Sorry I only just started using OS X so I don't really know the ins and out of it yet. I assume it's going to first load the colour profile of the admin account.

I do think it's the colour profile or something of the sort. It make sense if you friend has been using a external display with it.

ColourSync Utility might sort this out dude! Noticed it has profiles for System, Users, Computer. Not going to mess around with it myself but have a look at it.

I had a look at that a while ago but didn't notice the "System". I looked this up on google some more and found some other people having issues, apparently I need to do all sorts of swapping of files because the profile at the login screen etc is not actually listed.
Hmmm,
I'm going to really dig in with this tomorrow, i'll let you know, and thanks again for your guidance / ideas!
