Hi, I have just built a system with an Athlon x2 quad core 640 - running at 3.0gz . However, I noticed on my CPU usage gadget the following:

I ran CPUZ and saw the following:

The next second it was this:

When I had a dual core the core speed was a constant 3000MHz. Any idea what is going on or if this is normal, as it's worrying seeing the 'clock 780MHz' most of the time.

Thanks for any advice :)

Probably some "turbo" kind of setting, i bet if you play a game it'll jump up to 3Ghz.

There will most likely be a setting in the BIOS to turn it off.

Itll be amd's cool and quiet at work, basically amd's version of intel's speedstep, drops the multi/clockspeed when the system is idle to save power. It can be disabled in bios if preffered.

Its down to personal preference wether to use it or not tbh, some people do some dont. It wont affect the stability of the system in any way.
