Quick rundown on my trials and errors.

My system is a 3770k, with EKWB Cpu block and 7970 block. My initial results weren't as i had planned:

Aircooled 3770k @ 4.3ghz, 80-90c and GPU 70c
Watercooled @ 4.4ghz 70-80c and GPU 30-40c

I wasn't happy with those results, so thinking i might have a dud IHS contact i decided to delid the CPU. Result. Applied EKWB thermal paste and the temps dropped to 60-70c allowing 4.6 ghz @ 1.3volts. Yay.

Or so i thought. After 2 months running at those sort of temperatures i went on holiday for 2 weeks. When i came back something must have happened to the thermal paste, because my prime95 load temps were now hitting 100c  Took the cpu apart, reapplied paste and back to 70c. Fast forward only 2 more weeks and im back to 100c again at full load, but i have replaced the paste twice today and its not improved at all.

Is the EKWB thermal paste that bad that it goes off so fast? Or is something else wrong? Someone has said my waterblock might be blocked up but i doubt it.

GPU is still running absolutely fine at 30-40c depending on load, and its temperate at idle is about 26, and doesnt go up at all if im running prime so its not as if the water temps are going up effecting CPU performance.

Utterly confused.

I would only use liquid metal on a delidded chip mate by the sounds of things you haven't delidded yours. The EK thermal paste, if it is the Ectotherm stuff it's fairly naff. I found it to be quite watery compared to other pastes. As far as I can remember EK used to ship their blocks with Gelid Extreme but changed to this stuff about a year ago. I would look into buying a tube of the thermal grizzly or noctua paste if you're not going to delid.

Yeh i delidded and will only use the liquid pro between the core and IHS, i want to keep my waterblock looking good and ive heard it can discolour copper.

The EK stuff i have is Ectotherm like you say. I found the opposite with it, when its cold its relatively thick and doesnt work too well if you apply it using the small blob/small pea method, its much better if you spread it. Im going to write this stuff off, i think its the problem. Will order some Gelid Extreme for when put the liquid pro on.

Ill put it on like this:
WB - Gelid extreme - IHS - Liquid pro - CPU.

Thanks guys :)

I don't know if its something with the mount or Supremacy EVO just doesn't like i7 3770k for some reason but I had a similar problem with mine (even though mine is delided).
I took the waterblock off and installed again and temperatures went from 80 to 60 .. :)

*update*

100% EKWB thermal paste that is the issue.
In the week gap between getting the liquid pro, but waiting for the Gelid extreme to show up i had to refit the block again. As the week end on the temps climbed and climb untill they was in the high 90s. Lowered my overclock and voltage to 1.1volts to get the temps under 70c. a few days later they had reached above 80 again.

Fast forward to today. Block off, IHS off, thorough clean of every surface. Liquid pro onto the CPU die, then replace IHS and clamped it down for a bit to allow it to set.

Started to apply the Gelid extreme, and hit a snag. The stuff is almost a solid at 16c, couldnt spread it and even getting it out the tube was hard enough. Zip lock bag into hot hot water helps there, but still very thick

So all back together. Loaded up my default OC settings (4.6ghz, 1.3volts).

Before (lowest temps): 72c 72c 79c 79c
Now: 51c 51c 55c 55c.

So basically don't use EKWB thermal paste

also im sorry i posted it in this sub forum, but my idea posting here was just incase it was a water block issue.

Gelid might be a tad on the thick side, but god is it the best paste I have ever used, I'm interested by this thermal grizzly stuff now though. :)

Those are some impressive drops with the liquid pro though.

Bloody hell those drops are beast!
I want some but literally renewed my thermal paste yesterday with artic cooling 5. It had good reviews so brought it. Haven't noticed anything tbh as before I was you gelid compound 2.
@sookums I'm also interested by thermal grizzly, it's got quite a hype at be moment

It does have a lot of hype but sadly it isn't a drastic improvement over gelid so I can't warranty wasting money on a tube when I've still got half a tube of gelid to use up, but it'll defo be the next paste I buy.

This weather is annoying for that, i use a lot of adhesives and sealants at work and i have to heat a lot up this time of year before i apply them or theyre just too hard and dont stick properly.
