strange crashing/freezing

well yeah my pc started to crash and freeze.

I suspect the hdd, but whats the best way to check if it is?
I defragged which cleared up most of the windows hanging and stuttering, but if i load up css it instantly crashes. I managed to play 2142 for an hour or so before it hung :/

umm specs:

7800gt with artic cooler
3200 winnie @ 2.6 (stable, same happens at stock)
xfi
asus a8n sli
WD 250gb hdd

So, any software i can run to diagnose?

Random freezing is usually indivative of needing a new power supply, what have you got at the moment?

hiper 580 modular. 'twas an RMA from a friend.

Before you bash it, yes I know the problems with them, i dont need any hiper bashing.

I have noticed that it starts chugging out a lot of heat, ie i tried my best to silence my pc (new gfx card fan, cpu heatsink with a slow 120mm fan) and noticed this back fan on the powersupply is getting louder/more of the time.

Ill try it in a mates pc sometime

nothing to do with a HDD fault, it works or it doesn't work, apart from your HDD being ful of C##p, it is either a driver fault or a game needing an update to work.

if your specs are set at default and your cpu is running cool enough,the last thing I would look at is the power supply

well its defo not the game, as its both 2142 and css doing the same thing.
'Tis defo not drivers, just tried a beta set and an old set. Same thing.

Will be testing psu in another machine someday, ill also run an old 40gb hdd see if it does the same.

my pc is doing the same. whenever it has to do anything challenging it restarts the pc within a couple of minutes, ive had 2 different graphics cards and differnt ram. My PC is running very cool, Mobo/Cpu are at about 38-42 degrees and graphics card though is like 50 i think

my temps @ load are just under yours stated there.

Hmm, it used to just freeze for a few seconds in 2142, the hdd would be on solid then go back to normal.

I havent got the time or money to get the hdd RMA's replaced as of :/
