Ok i have a pre-built rig i bought here at overclockers around 18 months ago.
Gigabyte EX58-UD5 mobo and i7-920 cpu. Radeon HD5870 GPU

It has run flawlessly up until 2 days ago when it suddenly crashed with power still on and GPU fan running at full speed. I rebooted and all was ok for an hour or so and then it happened again, shortly after it repeated and then went into a very quick down spiral of time between crashes.
Yesterday i did a clean install of windows thinking it may be driver related and also applied fresh thermal paste to cpu and it ran for 13hrs before crashing. Today i ran prime95 first thing for 5 hrs and no errors. CPU cores are maxed out at 67C when running prime95 Shortly after it crashed again and went into its spiral of shorter times between crashes and right now it wont boot at all, GPU fan runs at full speed the moment it starts. Took out Bios battery and reset bios which allowed it to start for about 10 secs and then crash again.
I think it must be a mobo(bios chip?) problem.
What do you all think?

Thks for any advice
p.s. used to build a lot of pc's for ppl a few years ago but this has me stumped.

thks for the replies guys...

ok, this morning i tried to boot and GPU still runs full speed with no output and mobo seems to boot as normal in background (FF displayed).
Tried card in another PC and does same thing, tried another GPU in my PC boots fine (only difference it requires 1xPCI-E plug rather than 2 for my Radeon HD5870)
My PSU is a Corsair 650W(Overclockers UK built).

Now i'm pretty sure its the GPU as i took it apart and it seems to be fine(very little dust), put it back together, tried it once more and it booted but then crashed after 2 mins.

Still think PSU guys??

ok guys,
just bought a new PSU but its still crashing.
Swapped out my Radeon HD5870 for an old Geforce 9600GT and PC is running without crashing.
Is this definately a fault GPU then.

Or could it still be the mobo(maybe less stress with an older GPU).

Any comments helpful
Thks
