Howdy :)

grabbed myself a 9600GT yesterday to celebrate a new job, and so far I'm extremely impressed!

I ran the crysis built-in benchmarks to try and find a fps-sweet-spot, and found that with every consecutive run, the average fps dropped..

Code:
==============================================================
TimeDemo Play Started , (Total Frames: 1500, Recorded Time: 44.62s)
==============================================================
TimeDemo Play Started , (Total Frames: 1500, Recorded Time: 44.62s)
!TimeDemo Run 0 Finished.
Play Time: 82.10s, Average FPS: [COLOR="Red"]18.27[/COLOR]
Min FPS: 2.74 at frame 196, Max FPS: 31.20 at frame 111
    Average Tri/Sec: 19228652, Tri/Frame: 1052465
    Recorded/Played Tris ratio: 0.68
!TimeDemo Run 1 Finished.
Play Time: 69.48s, Average FPS: [COLOR="Red"]21.59[/COLOR]
Min FPS: 2.74 at frame 196, Max FPS: 31.20 at frame 111
    Average Tri/Sec: 22753570, Tri/Frame: 1054017
    Recorded/Played Tris ratio: 0.68
!TimeDemo Run 2 Finished.
Play Time: 75.75s, Average FPS: [COLOR="Red"]19.80[/COLOR]
Min FPS: 2.74 at frame 196, Max FPS: 31.20 at frame 111
    Average Tri/Sec: 20908946, Tri/Frame: 1055893
    Recorded/Played Tris ratio: 0.68
!TimeDemo Run 3 Finished.
Play Time: 94.39s, Average FPS: [COLOR="Red"]15.89[/COLOR]
Min FPS: 2.74 at frame 196, Max FPS: 31.20 at frame 111
    Average Tri/Sec: 16750042, Tri/Frame: 1054028
    Recorded/Played Tris ratio: 0.68
TimeDemo Play Ended, (4 Runs Performed)

I can understand that the first run is slower as it's loading textures/sounds/everything, but why does the performance drop 2nd run>3rd run>4th run?

This is replicable, and happens in the gpu benchmarks aswell :(

PS: I know the fps there isn't playable, this is just an example grab from the timedemo logs :)

*edit* Here it is again, but WAY more extreme this time:

Code:
TimeDemo Play Started , (Total Frames: 2000, Recorded Time: 111.86s)
!TimeDemo Run 0 Finished.
Play Time: 96.55s, Average FPS: 20.71
Min FPS: 12.32 at frame 258, Max FPS: 39.66 at frame 63
    Average Tri/Sec: -21994952, Tri/Frame: -1061854
    Recorded/Played Tris ratio: -0.86
!TimeDemo Run 1 Finished.
Play Time: 100.08s, Average FPS: 19.98
Min FPS: 11.31 at frame 1955, Max FPS: 39.66 at frame 63
    Average Tri/Sec: -21041566, Tri/Frame: -1052958
    Recorded/Played Tris ratio: -0.87
!TimeDemo Run 2 Finished.
Play Time: 170.70s, Average FPS: 11.72
Min FPS: 0.00 at frame 373, Max FPS: 39.66 at frame 63
    Average Tri/Sec: -12333326, Tri/Frame: -1052623
    Recorded/Played Tris ratio: -0.87
!TimeDemo Run 3 Finished.
Play Time: 301.22s, Average FPS: 6.64
Min FPS: 0.00 at frame 373, Max FPS: 39.66 at frame 63
    Average Tri/Sec: -6999000, Tri/Frame: -1054129
    Recorded/Played Tris ratio: -0.87
TimeDemo Play Ended, (4 Runs Performed)

:S that's a very strage thing to happen. I'd like to say I can help you but I havn't seen anything like that before. Btw what settings is that benchmark on? Because those cards are very powerful, I'd have expected abit more tbh. Benchmark it on 3D mark & while doing so, monitor voltages using Everest system tool. Well done on the new job =D

Yeah that is very strange. I have never seen that before. I would first run 3dmark06 and see what score you get. If it is low i would guess that it is your psu not able to supply a constant amount of power.

Congrats on the new job as well :D

Crysis at 1680x1050, High Settings and 4xAA will make *any* graphics card cry ;)

Perhaps some kind of memory bug? Do you get similar results without AA and at 1280 x 1024? When I say similar, does the avg fps still decline with each consecutive run?

yup :(

I would assume it's a memory leak.. I'll keep task manager open and run the benchmark again, and see if any proccess starts to eat up my ram..

Well, I was thinking GPU memory... but if its the same, maybe not.

HAve you got the lastest beta drivers from the Nvidia site loaded?

I have.. tbh, I just ran the CS:S stress test a few times, and 3DMark06, and each result was exactly the same, so I believe it's down to Crysis..

now, I've not heard anyone else bring this issue up, so I assume it's because I don't have a legit copy. I know I'm not allowed to talk warez here, and I own ~63GB of legit Steam games, I just wanted to see if my new graphics card could run Crysis, and if the patches affected the fps.

So, that aside, I expect the memory leak is due to the dodgy patch :)

I just wish Crysis was on Steam, it's so much easier :D

Ah well, </thread>
