Hopefully someone can help with this.
I have my PC wired into a Linksys WRT160N. The problem is I can make the connection to the router drop in a very repeatable fashion.
To describe my setup, PC - wired- WRT160N - wired - Virginmedia cable router - Internet.
What happens is that the connection between the PC and the WRT160N drops out.
I can make it drop out by simply downloading something on Steam and then launching a game. This will always make it lose connection. I have also seen it lose connection by just having a few programs open, or alt tabbing out of a game. Suspicion that it may be related to downloading updates for programs and then running something else.
PC is on Win7 home 64 bit.
E8500
BFG nforce 6 680i
4870 graphics
Creative X-fi soundcard
Corsair 550W power supply,
Now I can repair the connection by just asking windows to troubleshoot the problem and it comes back with resetting local area connection 2. Then its ok, up and running again.
I have DMZ switched on, on the router, although steam doesnt say that they explicitly support that.
Any ideas how to stop it doing this? or does it sound like some dubious hardware issue on the motherboard?
