Afternoon all,

My car has developed a lovely electrical problem. Basically, whenever I touch the throttle, the CD player switches off, as do the headlights and various other dash lights.

I've spoken to a mechanic mate, and he mentioned something about the earth point being broken as the engine tilts from the acceleration.

Any truth in this? The car in question is a 1.6 205 GTi.

Thanks :)

Earthing points are normally between the battery and slam panel, and also from the engine/gearbox itself to the battery.

Didn't Lopez say something about 205's suffering from corroding earth points?

Oh and congrats on the car btw :) Any pics?

Sounds like a strange problem, maybe time for new engine mounts if its tilting excessively?

Try cleaning the brown multiplug up underneath the air flow meter and also the big eath point ontop of the gearbox. I think its a 10mm bolt.

Its fixed :D

I had a quick look under the bonnet, and low and behold, the earth conection on the battery was half out! fiddled about a bit, popped it back in, jobs a good 'un.

Very strange how a single earthing point can affect the whole car, acceleration was hesitant, almost as if it was starved of fuel! Runs like a dream again now, quite pleased with myself :)
