Strange fan issue?

Hey guys,

I have a strange one here..

when I boot up my computer (3 front intake fans, rgb), sometimes its intermittent that some dont spin, even though they are illuminated..

but when I reboot and into BIOS all are there and fine, and then when I go to load into Windows the same thing happens..but..

when the fans decide if they want to spin up or not, it is always soon as it starts to boot into windows (the circular dot just before the login screen it starts to happen).

Im going to try reformatting the OS later today as see if it helps..its a strange one..

especially as the computer is fully functional and fine, just a weird fan issue!

To add : I have checked connections etc.. and all seem fine.

ordered a new fan splitter cable, should be here tomorrow, hopefully sorts this, really strange..

think it could have been the fan splitter, will update once fully tested!

Nope. still intermittent. Must be the PSU or what I think is the motherboard. Will be returning this ASAP. :mad:

Have you tried any fan software in Windows? Argus system monitor has a free trial and allows you to set fan speeds individually while Windows is running and can also be set to work on startup.

Could be worth a try.

I suppose the run through questions would be:

1. When did you get these fans? Did they originally work without issues? Or has this always worked like this since getting them? (To eliminate fans as the problem itself)
2. In Windows Power Settings, has it been set to anything other than Balanced or Power User mode? (To eliminate Windows power settings telling the motherboard its cool enough and then it messes with the power on any fan headers to slow them down, which one a multi-fan splitter will do all sorts of funniness)
3. What fan header have you connected to on the motherboard or fan controller device? (To narrow down whether a specific header is the problem)
4. Have you confirmed that the fan header and controller connection is PWM, Voltage Control, or variable Voltage Control? (To narrow down whether it's a problem with the fan controller itself).

Thanks for all the input guys...

It has done this since I bought the machine, and I have the front three to a header on the motherboard, and a rear fan on another header and its still the same

I have just booted my machine from being out, and all fans are spinning again, its very random. Im going to return this and do a build im messing about with from OCUK, have always built my systems in the past, and been OK, so lesson learnt I think.
