Strange findings with sky routers

Long story cut short but I'm with sky and so is my brother in laws girlfriend. He bought her a wifi printer for christmas so she could print things from her tablet, anyway as neither of them have much of an idea of setting things up they asked me.......

After fiddling around with the printer and setting up cloud printing on my network I kinda sussed out how to do it, hardly straight forward but hey ho

I asked him to bring her tablet and sky router to my house so I could try and plug her router into my phoneline and set it up here, was sure it would work but it connected to sky broadband service. I managed that bit but when I logged into her router I noticed it was only connected at 8mb where as mine was around 18mb, so do sky do something with the routers depending on which package etc your on?

I wonder if I took my router to hers if she would get a speed increase?

Maybe the 8Mbit one was set for plain ADSL and not ADSL2+. Is she on Sky Broadband or Sky Connect?

Different exchanges, i'm not sure what package she is on tbh but there both the same Sagem routers, i didnt look into much on her router tbh other than the download and upload speeds, i was just curious more than anything really

One exchange might be non-LLU or much further from the exchange than the other.

AFAIK the line is set at the exchange equipment so any router should work on any sky connection at the same speed. Not sure why hers would sync any lower.

Depends how far away you both are from the exchanges you are connected to.. As already said, the only difference could be one of you is on an old ADSL package rather than ADSL2+ or LLU.

You are all missing the point.

He has said when at his house with 2 routers there is a change in speed,
No its nothing to do with the exchange or any thing with the line.

Could be a fault on the router only gaining sync on G.Dmt and not Adsl2+
Sky have 98% of there lines set to Adsl2+ but if there is any issues with the router it will switch to G.Dmt

When you changed over the routers Op was it just the router you changed?

Yes just a case of unplugging mine and plugging hers in
