Strange Firefox Bookmarks Problem

So this is a really annoying problem, on certain bookmarks in my bookmarks menu, right-clicking + delete does nothing, so I'm just stuck with them taking up space there. Any ideas?

I'm sure this is just some stupid issue caused by myself but apart from actually going into my bookmarks files (cba to do this every time I want to delete something) I can't come up with anything.

My Dad has this problem with just one of them. I had a bit of a fiddle to see if I could get it to go away but no luck, couldn't seem to find a bookmarks file to edit either. If anyone's got a solution (CBA to reinstall FF), I'm listening too.. :p

Oh that's weird. Going into organise bookmarks I was able to delete it. Didn't think of that, thanks!

Seems odd though, any possible reason for this?

Unfortunately, organise bookmarks didn't help for me. It's almost as though the bookmark has been deleted but a shell of it remains in FF.. it's no longer associated with a link or description, it's literally just a name. Clicking on it does nothing, and deleting it does nothing. Very odd. Oh well..

if it's the latest firefox the bookmarks are stored in a database, you can get a firefox add-on call sqlite manager that lets you remove these problem bookmarks

nah think the database started with v3 for older there should be a file called bookmarks.html which is what i think you need to edit

Firefox 2 uses an HTML file in his profile (%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\[random letters and numbers].[profile name]), Firefox 3 uses an SQLite file. Using SQLite Manager to edit the database would be asking for trouble though.

Why doesn't he upgrade to Fx3 though? Fx2's end of lifed and not getting security updates...

why is it asking for trouble using sqlite manager? and although i've never run into problems using it what would you recommend using instead?

Because if you don't know what you're doing, you can mangle that file pretty easily and wind up with no bookmarks/history and a broken browser. I'd recommend leaving it well alone or if you really need to solve a problem doing it by exporting your bookmarks, moving places.sqlite out of the way and re-importing them.

He's a bit behind the times.. he still uses Win95 on occasion, I don't know why, assume it's nostalgia! I only updated it to FF2 a few months after it came out, when I happened to be back at home. Maybe I'll just upgrade it this summer, it's probably easiest!
