I was using firefox and typing in the boxes on forums and it would stall and hang. I looked at the processes and i saw it was talking almost 400megs of memory and rising. Closed firefox and cleaned out the cache just incase, now it's sitting at 102megs+

Any idea what could've caused that?

Oh, totally picked you up wrong.
No idea then, you have lots and lots of plugins? Any misbehaving?
Wonder if you deactivate them one at a time, if that'll help locate the memory hog?

Still playing up , as i type in certain boxes on certain forums the text stalls while i'm typing. Also noticed it have the odd tiny freeze when loading sites

I've noticed in the latest Firefox build that there are memory leaks going on somewhere, I can't work out if it's Firefox or one of my plugins but something definitely causes it to eat memory for no reason even when all tabs get closed.

It went over 700mb last time :(

Yeh same here , i only have two addons adblock and greasemonkey with no themes. So it's firefox for sure

The latest firefox has memory issues without question, I can't downloading anything "too" large otherwise it will just hang, it doesn't clean up after itself so if I've had it open for a good few hours but closed all tabs down to one it doesn't free up the memory it was using until I close out of it.

As a result, I've started using chrome.

That's amusing. Moving to chrome because of high resource usage :)

You do realise, that the reason chrome is the "fastest" browser is simply because it uses the most resources? Rather, other browsers have limits, chrome will scale to the available hardware (which you'd expect tbh). It will happily use 6/700meg of ram with several tabs and a couple GB of cache. It's really just ahead of the game though, FF4s dynamic cache management is set to 1GB by default and uses roughly the same amount of gpu as chrome.

Not had any memory leaks in ff3 for many, many months though. I have however had small amounts of stutter in ff4, but that's to be expected atm :p

That's amusing, did you not read my post? :)

I'm using chrome because Firefox keeps crashing, not because it's faster.

No, I'm still on my first cup of the day and trying to take in all the snow :D

Tried removing everything including the profile?

I had firefox on most of the morning and within the last 30mins it became laggy , reponse time was low and would text stall as i typed on certain forums. Checked the memory usage 360MB+ !

Closed firefox , restarted it and loaded lots of websites and youtube video's 76MB !

:o
