Ok, can someone answer this for me.

Next to my TV I've got a Bitfenix Prodigy with this fan in the front. Whenever I turn on my TV, the fan lights up for a couple of seconds. I thought that because they were plugged into the same socket that might be the cause, but I've unplugged the PC & it's still doing it.

It doesn't seem to be an issue, I'm just extremely curious as to what would be causing this.

Could be a frequency thing, or possibly due to induction.

Once the magnetic field 'goes back down' from the initial power 'surge' from the TV the magnetic field could no longer be affecting the fans electrical components.

Move it further away if you can and try it out (if it really is every time you turn on the TV) to see if it could be what I said. If it stops it then it sounds like induction to me (kinda like a transformer).

Is it an old cathode TV?

Nope. Brand spanking new LED box.

Yeah, I figured it could be something like this. I'll give it a try shortly see what happens.

Did you find out what the case was in the end? I'm interested in the result!

You were spot on it seems.

The PC is about a 1ft away from the socket normally so I moved it about 2ft away it was still happening! Tried 3ft & it stopped bloody doing it. Moved it back to where it lives & the problem seemed to be gone.

However, since I've plugged the PC back in & it's back to normal. At least now I'm not freaked out by the whole situation.

I do have a crappy phone video if anyone else is interested..
