Hi people ....

I've basically just bought all new components for a haswell mini itx build. The only two parts migrated over we're my OCZ Vertex 2e 120gb ssd and 1.5tb Sammy green hd & 8gb geil leggera 1866mhz ddr3

Rest are
I5 4670k
7870 his iced x 2gb
750w seasonic m12 ll semi modular psu
Gigabyte z87n wifi mini itx mobo

Ok my problem is I've now managed to put the PC together. It boots fine via hdmi and shows the uefi bios symbol. With previous installation on ssd it would fail to boot ? So I decided to do a fresh and clean install of windows 7 64. Formatted and deleted all partitions and continued to install the OS.
As windows restarted it did not automatically go back onto the installation. Just saying windows could not boot from this drive. I've been into the bios many times and can't find anything out of place. I've changed the Sata settings from achi to IDE and it does not have much of an effect. At times my ssd disappears from the bios all together ? I have to load optimised defaults to get it back again after a failed boot.
I have wireless keyboard and mouse. Sometimes they work in bios and sometimes they don't. I managed to install windows but had an error saying " windows cannot install to this partition 0 1 please click below to see problem "

I've tried most things but feel a little stumped ATM.

Any ideas and help appreciated

The older SSDs are not supported by the onboard SATA controller in H87/Z87 chipsets.
Sometimes the BIOS sees them sometimes not.

Older Sandforce controllers such as you have on the vertex 2e are particularly troublesome to get working on Haswell

The timing parameters have been tightened up by Intel in this gen and it means older SATA drives which work perfectly with other chipsets no longer work properly.

Seems the z87n has only 4 ports. all Intel.
Had a quick google before posting, as using the 3rd party SATA ports if available would have got the OP out of trouble.

It'll be a conflict between your old SSD and the intel sata ports. I had the same issue with the OCZ bigfoot, changed it to my 3rd party sata ports and it's fine now.

Hi guys

Many many thanks for the replys.

Yeah it does seem to be a driver related issue. I have just managed to reinstall windows without any errors. Everything booted perfectly , windows felt snappy and alive. Installed my security suit and windows z87 drivers and stuff. PC was working perfectly. Restarted to install some updates and now the drive does not appear in boot options :(

So nothing much I can do apart from get a new drive ?

I only have 4 ports on this itx board so all intel I guess ?

What type drives would be ok then , how do I tell which ones will cause issue ?

Any other ideas and info welcome

Just bought a sata3 Scan disk plus drive from MM with Marvell controller so lets see how this works instead of the OCZ vertex 2

any other input or information welcome.
