I have an Iiyama Vision Master Pro 513 (MA203DT) and recently on occasion it has let out a high pitched whine. It's not that loud, but it's enough to be fairly noticeable.

This moniter is a few years old now, I'm wondering is it on its way out? I really hope it isn't. I don't like the quality of crappy flat screens, and the decent ones are out of my price range; and can't even be be fed with proper HD goodness with my current spec.

Closest thing i've ever had to that was on my CRTs. They'd make that noise on a high resolution, but would stop when i turned it down. Never had it on a flat screen and I imagine the causes are unrelated. Still, when it happens does changing settings such as resolution make a difference? do you just turn it off and it goes away?
Sorry I cant offer anything more useful there :(

Chances are its on its way out unfortunately. Either a transformer or capacitor is likely to be making the noise which usually means they are going to go. If you like the monitor just keep using it until it blows as when they do go its not usually anything more dramatic than a "pop" on turn on, and then a dead monitor!

Either there is some problem with the PSU board, or you need to mess with the settings. I had a viewsonic that squealed depending on whether or not there was a picture. Although what you've described, sounds like the PSU board.

Speaking as a past TV engineer that could simply be a coil resonating. I have cured it in the past on CRT TV's by putting epoxy resin over the offending coil to stop the oscillation.

Don't try repairing yourself for obvious reasons, etc. etc.

(I am assuming the monitor you have IS a crt of course, a quick google suggests it is.)

Sorry, yes it is a CRT.

Damn, as people were moving to flat screens there were flooding them away on auction sites and I could take my pick. Now there are barely any of the same quality.

It's a pity really - as my older 19" Iiyama died of old age as well.

We still have a few CRTs at work. The odd one does this. I just change the refresh rate and it stops.

Get a 24" 16:10 TFT
