Okays twice today i've had the problem when on my main pc of not being able to surf the web. Weird thing is, msn etc still work fine but can't for the life of me access the internet. I've got a feeling the router is the issue as i can view the router setup page and once i've rebooted the router its fine again. Just seems strange that its only web pages i can't view. Its the same from all the pc's in the house so can't be an issue with firefox, IE.

Any ideas?

How long does it take for the router to stop showing web pages again after you've rebooted it? Also when you say "rebooted" you mean software reboot from within the routers' configuration page... right?

yeah software reboot and once it completes (roughly 60 seconds) I am once again able to browse the web. Havn't had any issues today, although havn't used my vista machine at all. Having said that it happens when the vista machine is off so don't think i can blame that.

DNS issue perhaps. Try changing the DNS in the router to OpenDNS. If that doesn't work, reset the router as it could possibly the router firewall (or inspect firewall settings).

Cheers i've set it to use openDNS, i'll keep you posted on how things go. Howcomes rebooting the router seems to fix the issue if its a DNS issue? because i'm guessing it will still use the same DNS server once its rebooted as the router is connected to the virgin media modem. Sorry if that sounds a stupid question? Thanks for your help anyways.

I'm having a similar problem with my Belkin router. I'm not sure if my other web programs still work when my browser stops surfing tho. Will have to investigate.

Its interesting we are both having the same problem and are both using practicaly the same router. I have a F5D7231-4 and also recently updated my firmware. Wonder if there is an issue with the latest firmware thats causing instability. I've tried changing my DNS settings on the router setup page (as "JoeMama" suggested) to use OpenDNS instead of the virgin media ones. I'll see how it goes.

Having similar problems on my Belkin F5D7633UK4A over the last 2 days with some sites not working at random until i reset, but it then does not take more than a minute for the problem to come back.

I'm now using my Belkin F5D8632UK4A that has not given me any problems, but as soon as i put back the Belkin F5D7633UK4A the problems start again, but i like the Belkin F5D7633UK4A as i can adjust the SNR.

It was all ok until i did a 50GB marathon 2 days ago.

Maybe a BIOS re-flash my help.

I spoke to soon Belkin F5D8632UK4A same problem, not as bad but just like the Belkin F5D8632UK4A if i wait for a while it will work again or if i cant wait i will reset.

I did forget to mention that my line went down about a week ago for 24 hours.

sometimes my kaspersky AV goes mental and blocks the interweb until i exit and restart the program.

might be worth looking at what AV you use, might be your modem aswell and not the router

How many active connections are going through the router at the time of the lock ups?

I will assume that was for me.
I would have no idea.

Even when i was just playing GRID on-line yesterday it would sometimes say no internet & i just kept hitting connect until it did.

There was no disconnect & re-sync going on when this happens. it just stops & kicks back in.

It sore looks like there is a DNS resolve problem kicking in now & then.

I could be on OCUK & clicking through the forums & then it will hang with the accessing indicator spinning or unable to connect pops up, but in another tab another site is working just fine & then at some point that one may stop ect,.. but OcUK will be fine again or everything stops & starts working moments later.
On a 12 hour fresh install of vista.
I'm with BullDog.

Just to keep people updated. Had the issue of not being able to browse the web once again. Using openDNS and was using my macbook with firefox/safari. MSN working fine. Rebooted router to restore web browsing.

Could the issue be something external to my network?
I've noticed i'm getting a lot of security alerts on the routers log page, is this normal:?

I tried a super mega hard reset the other day. I 'Restored to factory default' from the software and clicked in the little 'reset' button on the back. Went in and renamed my network to the name I wanted and put in the same password and touch wood, it seems to have resolved the problem.

I think it was the new firmware. I assume restoring to factory default will restore the original firmware?
